In Search of the Singing Quail

My big project for 2019 is to make my quail happy and comfortable enough to enable them to find their singing voices. Coturnix were kept originally for three reasons, to fight (witness Shakespeare's Anthony and Cleopatra), for their medicinal eggs and to sing. If you have ever heard a mother quail calling her chicks, a quail when it is happily consuming something delicious or a male calling in Spring, then you will know they have an amazing vocal range. Sadly however, the complete, specific bloodline of singing coturnix quail, were lost over the two World Wars, with their final extinction in Japan in WW2.

Here, though, in the meantime and also to say a big thank you to all who have read, viewed, commented and shared my work both on here and YouTube....I present the singing coturnix....

Wishing you health and happiness for 2019 and thank you all again for your support which is greatly appreciated, Sue xxxxxxx
